Luanda, ANGOLA, February 15 - Angolan Foreign Affairs Minister, Manuel Augusto said Friday in Luanda that government hopes that through dialogue; a peaceful solution will be reached to overcome the current political crisis in Venezuela.,

"We want to believe that a consensus can be reached in Venezuela and that the democratic process in that country resumes its course, within the expectations of its people," the Angolan diplomat told journalists.

 

Manuel Augusto said that Angola is against external interference in the internal affairs of any country and that it bases its action on the principles of international relations.

 

Manuel Augusto also said on Friday that Angola wants the solution to be found in Venezuela to meet the wishes of its people.

 

Since last May's election, political and economic instability in Venezuela has intensified, reaching in recent days the moment of greater tension with direct threats of intervention from the United States.

 

This happened after then National Assembly Speaker, Juan Guaidó proclaimed himself interim president of Venezuela, claiming to be occupying a position that had been usurped and demanding new free elections.

 

The streets of Caracas were "taken" by demonstrators who also demanded the downfall of President Nicolas Maduro who has already stated that he will not relinquish power.

 

Since then, 14 countries, including Brazil and Portugal, have already recognized Guaidó as president, and another eight support the current government.

 

The protests are growing in the country and it is estimated that 35 people have already died as a result of the crackdown.
