UN reiterates support for Angola in combating crime
Luanda, ANGOLA, February 12 - The UN system coordinator in Angola, Paolo Balladelli reiterated Tuesday in Luanda the availability of the United Nations Office on Drug and Crime (UNODC) to continue to support the country in combating illicit financing, international organized crime and corruption.

Paolo Balladelli, whos was speaking at the opening of the national workshop on the International Convention for the Suppression of Acts of Nuclear Terrorism, emphasized that UNODC support will be extended to combat illicit financial flows and international organized crime.
On the other hand, the Secretary of State for Energy, António Belsa da Costa, said that with the help of the International Atomic Energy Agency, the country has benefited from the training and technological transfer of cadres.
This is through technical cooperation projects in the fields of facility inspection, facility licensing, radiological incident prevention and mitigation, as well as associated practices.
To that end, he said, the Angolan government drafted and promulgated Law 04/07 of September 5 on Atomic Energy and created the body to prepare infrastructure and draft legislation on the sector.
The two-day meeting aims to promote the universalization and implementation of the "International Convention for the Suppression of Acts of Nuclear Terrorism" and the "Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material".
The initiative is taking place within the framework of the UNODC program for the Southern Africa region. The focus is to make this region drug, crime and terrorism free.
