Addis Ababa, ANGOLA, February 9 - Angolan Foreign Minister Manuel Augusto arrived Saturday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to attend the 32nd Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) on behalf of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço. ,

The 32nd Summit, which starts Sunday is to take place under the theme "The Year of Refugees, Returnees and Internally Displaced Persons: Towards Durable Solutions to Forced Displacement in Africa. ".

 

The Summit will be chaired by the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, who will chair the organization's rotating presidency, as of this Sunday (10).

The meeting of the African leaders will be marked by an analysis of the current most important issues, such as the implementation of the decision to reform the organization, the elections held in 2018 on the continent, regional integration, the peace and security situation, the humanitarian situation and analysis of the 2019 budget.

During the session, Rwandan President Paul Kagame, who will cease as head of the continental organization, will report on the ongoing reform process at the institution as a result of the 11th Special Session of the Summit of Heads of State on reforms, held from 17 to 18 November 2018.

At the meeting, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission should present a report on the situation of peace and security in Africa and the actions undertaken by the organization in this regard in 2018.

The crisis situation on the continent, particularly in countries such as DR Congo, RCA, Libya, Sudan, South Sudan, Burundi, Somalia, and updated information on the implementation of the master roadmap to silence arms by 2020, as well as the electoral processes carried out in 2018 in DR Congo, Sierra Leone, Cameroon and Sao Tome and Principe, will also be part of the peace and security report.

The Summit will also address the issue of combating terrorism and violent extremism in Africa.   In addition to Minister Manuel Augusto, the Minister of Culture, Carolina Cerqueira, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Tete António and other Foreign Ministry officials are also in Addis Ababa for the event.
