Luanda, ANGOLA, February 7 - The commitment of Angolan head of States João Lourenço to fight against corruption and impunity has been acknowledged by the American watchdog organisation Freedom House. ,

 

 

The recognition is expressed in its report on Freedom in the World produced this year and presented on Tuesday (5) in Washington, United States.

 

Angola appears in category of "non-free" countries, but with improvements in the conditions for political rights and civil liberties.

 

The organisation referred to "surprising" improvements in freedom in Angola, Ethiopia, Ecuador and Armenia.

 

According to Freedom House, these countries found that democracy enables to hold the leaders accountable, thus paving the way for a better life.

 

On a scale of 1 (less free) and 100 (freer), Angola achieved 31 points, with a better rate of freedom (5/7) and civil rights (5.5 / 7) and worse in political rights (6/7).

 

The three criteria under analysis are evaluated on a scale from 01 (freer) to 07 (less free).

 

Freedom House is a non-profit, nonpartisan organisation dedicated to support democratic change, monitor freedom and uphold democracy and human rights.

 

The organisation assesses rights in the real world and individual freedoms. This year's report assessed the state of freedom in 195 countries and 14 autonomous territories in 2018.
