Luanda, ANGOLA, February 5 - The Angolan Foreign affairs minister, Manuel Augusto, said he expects that the new government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) can give new dynamic to the existing cooperation projects between the two countries. ,

The Angolan diplomat, who said during an interview to the National Radio of Angola (RNA), regarding the first official visit of the DRC’s newly sworn in president, Félix Tshisekedi, being held since this Tuesday, considered essential the that the two economies and potentialities complement themselves, which allows to rationalize costs and means.

 

The minister also said believes that the Benguela Railroad, linked to the Port of Lobito, can be one of the decisive instruments for the development of the DRC mining industry, with benefits for Angola.

 

Meanwhile, Manuel Augusto admitted that Cabinda's electrification could be assured from the DRC's energy capacity, which has one of the largest hydroelectric dams on the African continent.

 

He also considered essential the exchange of experiences between the two States to rationalize the sharing of the exploitation of the Zaire River, a two largest of Africa.

 

The fifth President of the DRC turns 56 years old on June 3 this year.

 

Felix Tshisekedi was received by the Angolan counterpart João Lourenço, with whom held a private meeting, followed by an official lunch.

 

According to the National Statistics Institute (INE), in the third quarter of 2017, the DRC was the second largest destination of Angola's exports, in trade among Africans only behind South Africa, with a total of 4,403 million kwanzas.
