CETA: Taking Action for Trade and Climate

The EU-Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) is a landmark agreement that upholds and promotes the values shared by the EU and Canada. At the same time, Canada and the EU are committed to effectively implementing the Paris Agreement, the global pledge to fight climate change, which is an important shared responsibility for the EU, its Member States and Canada.

Trade policies can support efforts of countries to address climate change, just as policies for addressing climate change can influence trade among countries. CETA provides a framework that fosters both trade and climate action by including commitments to cooperate on trade-related environmental issues of common interest such as climate change. CETA creates a unique opportunity to boost Canadian and EU economic ties whilst deepening links in trade in climate friendly goods, technologies and services.

To expand the awareness of EU-Canada trade and climate action in the context of CETA, the EU and Canada will be hosting a conference to explore how to best leverage CETA’s institutional and legal framework to encourage further joint actions to support implementation of the Paris Agreement.

This invitation-only conference will bring together the business, civil society and policy communities from both sides of the Atlantic.
