Hoyer Statement on Senate Confirmation of Members of the Election Assistance Commission
WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement on the Senate confirmation of the final members of the Election Assistance Commission on January 2nd, before the 115th Congress adjourned: “I am glad that the Senate has finally confirmed the remaining members of the Election Assistance Commission (EAC), enabling it to carry out its critical work at full capacity. I was proud to sponsor the Help America Vote Act in 2002 that created the EAC, and I will continue to advocate for it to have the resources necessary to help the states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and U.S. territories provide their citizens with free, fair, secure, and accurate elections. Now that the Senate has done its job, I hope the EAC can move forward with a robust effort to protect our election systems from foreign interference and ensure that every eligible voter in this country can cast a ballot and have a voice in our democracy.”
