Human rights represents national security issue

Frederico Cardoso was addressing a public presentation workshop on the medium-term executive's strategy for human rights, held Tuesday.
The official said that the Executive places the human rights issue at the level of national security.
He said that the issue deserves an evaluation at the level of National Security Council, alike defence, security and internal order of the country.
The President's aide pointed to the need of better guarantees and individual and collective freedoms, as well as the political and civil rights and the access to public goods.
According to him, the better these aspects are secured the greater the guarantees of well-being and happiness for citizens.
He encouraged the role of civil society in assessing, reporting, condemning and identifying the government's failure in the issue of human rights.
He highlighted that people should have access, among the public goods, the health, education, basic sanitation and the right to a healthy and sustainable environment.
The workshop, which ends today, brings together magistrates, members of the Executive, diplomats, academics, professionals and religious associations, as well as members of civil society and other representatives.
