Parliament wants journalism working for justice
Luanda, ANGOLA, October 22 - The speaker of the National Assembly, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, on Monday urged media professionals to exercise a journalism at the service of justice, human rights and with consensual principles.

In view of the political, social and cultural influence, added to the complexity of the media and organs and the need to ensure pluralism of opinion, he emphasized that the media should obey consensual rules and principles, so that their mission does not undermine the dignity of human person.
Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos was speaking at the ceremony that marked the opening of the 7th meeting of the Platform of the Social Communication Regulators of Portuguese-speaking Countries and Territories (PER), which will take place in the Angolan capital until the 28th of this month.
The Speaker of the Angolan Parliament advocated the need for a journalism that privileges respect for patriotic, ethical, moral, civic and cultural values, given that the peoples and nations are increasingly known and interacted through the communication bodies and social networks.
He made it known that the Executive Branch and the Legislative Branch have come to materialize policies and measures that safeguard the access of all Angolans to rigorous, exempt, plural and responsible information, with the intervention of regulatory and self-regulatory bodies that have come to ensure respect for the rights, freedoms and individual guarantees of citizens.
He highlighted, in this regard, a set of legal measures approved by the Angolan State regarding the exercise of radio, broadcasting, television, as well as the creation of the Regulatory Body of Social Communication (ERCA), with the functions of regulating and supervising all organs including online media bodies.
The Speaker of the National Assembly also expressed the need to promote production and circulation in the media spaces of digital and multi-media content linked to specific socio-cultural identities.
"We have to revitalize our cultural and creative industries, as well as promote the creation of new channels and new distribution services," he said.
