Speech: Fair and Ethical Trade – From Vision to Action

Today Commissioner Cecilia Malmström spoke at the Fair Trade Breakfast in the European Parliament. She discussed how trade can help bring the vision of the European Commission’s fair and ethical consumption into reality.
She also explained where these efforts fit into the big picture of EU trade policy’s commitment to sustainable development. “Trade is not just about profit – it is about partnerships and participation. It is about social, labour and environmental issues. By transforming our policy, we have been showing people that. Fair and ethical trade is a critical part of the EU’s efforts to improve the world through our trade policy”, Commissioner Malmström said.
