Parliament to elect new deputy speakers

Luanda, ANGOLA, October 1 - The National Assembly is to hold on October 12 an ordinary session to elect the first and second deputy speakers of this legislative organ of Angola, to replace the former incumbent Joana Lina and Higino Carneiro respectively.,

 

The substitution was requested by the ruling MPLA party, which previously appointed the referred MPs after the holding of the 2017 general elections.

   

The party, which secured 150 seats out of the 220 that comprise the National Assembly (Angolan Parliament), has proposed Emília Carlota Dias and  Suzana Melo to take up those positions.

 

The information were given last Friday by the outgoing spokesperson of the National Assembly, Emília Carlota Dias, in the end of the institution’s Permanent Commission Meeting that approved the agenda of the plenary session to be held on October 12 and prepare the opening of the parliamentary year, which will count on the presence of the Angolan President, João Lourenço.

 

Emília Carlota Dias informed that the October 12 plenary session will also elect the First and Second Secretaries for Meetings of the National Assembly.
