Luanda, ANGOLA, August 28 - The Politburo of the ruling MPLA party Tuesday congratulated the president of this organisation José Eduardo dos Santos on his 76th birthday on August 28. ,

 

In its message delivered to Angop, the party's Politburo highlights the event, the last one being celebrated as the party’s leader.

 

Under the ongoing transition within MPLA, José Eduardo dos Santos is set to hand over the party's leadership to João Lourenço.

 

The process will occur during the 6th Extraordinary Congress, scheduled for September 8 this year in Luanda.

 

The Politburo praises the stance, leadership, reflection and clear-sightedness demonstrated by José Eduardo dos Santos while at the helm of party and country, mainly in the toughest times.

 

The ruling party stressed the way its leader maintained the National Independence, the territory integrity, unity and, therefore, achieved the fair and lasting peace.

 

In order to pay tribute to José Eduardo dos Santos, the party launched an activity on August 21 this year until  04 April, 2019, the day of peace and national reconciliation.
