MPLA encourages financial assistance from IMF

Luanda, ANGOLA, August 27 - The ruling MPLA party recommended the country?s Executive to join the financial assistance programme of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and appealed for rigour in the implementation of the drafted measures. ,

The appeal was made last Saturday by the secretary-general of the ruling MPLA, António Paulo Kassoma, at the presentation ceremony, to the party leaders and militants, of the 2018-2022 National Development Plan (PND).

The politician also appealed for the drafting of absolutely necessary priorities, avoiding the dispersal of efforts towards the well-being of the citizens.

To Paulo Kassoma, “in this new stage, Angola must consider the relations with the IMF an opportunity and not a threat”, adding that the agreement can galvanise other institutions to grant financing and contribute to the acceleration of the economic diversification process.

He also suggested that in the negotiations with the IMF the country keep an autonomous framework and a politico-strategic posture, aiming at finding the necessary financing alternatives, preserving its sovereignty in the definition of economic policies.

The ruling party’s secretary-general also hoped that this co-operation with the IMF can help to pay off the country’s internal public debt, so as to safeguard the entrepreneurial class.

He explained that a lack of agreement with the IMF can create greater risks to the country, having into account its current economic and financial context.
