IMF Director-General to visit Angola next December
Berlin,, ANGOLA, August 23 - The Director-General of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Christine Lagarde, is due to visit Angola next December to discuss with the Angolan authorities the programs to be implemented with the support of this institution of Bretton Woods, announced on Thursday in Luanda, the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço.,
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Deutsch Welle (DW), President João Lourenço said that he will analyze with Christine Lagarde subjects related to projects and programs to be financed by the international monetary institution.
The Head of State made this announcement when confirming to that information body the acceptance by the IMF of the request for financial assistance requested by the Government.
A question from DW about the reasons for this request from the Angolan Government, João Lourenço considered normal this financing that the IMF agreed to release, since Angola is a contributing member that has rights consecrated by that financial institution.
"It is a normal assistance. This is not a rescue as what happened to Portugal and Greece, "said the Angolan Head of State.
On the future of the Angolan government's relations with the IMF, João Lourenço said he expected the "consolidation of the marriage" between the two parties, starting with the talks that will be held next October.
