NCSBN Launches Revamped Interactive Timeline

CHICAGO, Aug. 08, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In honor of its 40th anniversary this year, NCSBN has launched a redesigned and updated interactive timeline that chronicles its history and contributions to nursing regulation. The timeline is accessible at timeline.ncsbn.org

Drawn from archival sources, the timeline highlights NCSBN’s seminal milestones of the last 40 years. Featuring video and audio clips of interviews with the organization’s founders, Board of Directors presidents, and both past and current executive directors from NCSBN Member Boards, the timeline reveals the story of the organization from its creation in 1978 to the present day.

The timeline is divided into six eras: Establishing the Mission-driven Organization (1978-1985); Forging New Frontiers with Computerized Adaptive Testing (1986-1994); Transforming Regulation Through Technology (1995-2002); Promoting Evidence-based Nursing Regulation (2003-2007); Collaboration and Outreach (2008-2013); and Surging Toward the Future (2014-2018). Each of these segments includes information about significant milestones, leadership, Delegate Assembly decisions, as well as lists of committee members and award recipients.

About NCSBN
NCSBN marks its 40th anniversary milestone in 2018 with the inspiring theme of “Regulatory Excellence Surging Toward the Future.” Founded March 15, 1978, as an independent not-for-profit organization, NCSBN was initially created to lessen the burdens of state governments and bring together boards of nursing (BONs) to act and counsel together on matters of common interest. It has evolved into one of the leading voices of regulation across the world.

NCSBN’s membership is comprised of the BONs in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and four U.S. territories — American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands and the Virgin Islands. There are also 30 associate members that are either nursing regulatory bodies or empowered regulatory authorities from other countries or territories.

NCSBN Member Boards protect the public by ensuring that safe and competent nursing care is provided by licensed nurses. These BONs regulate more than 4.8 million licensed nurses.

Mission: NCSBN provides education, service and research through collaborative leadership to promote evidence-based regulatory excellence for patient safety and public protection.

The statements and opinions expressed are those of NCSBN and not the individual member state or territorial boards of nursing.
