President congratulates Zimbabwean election winner

João Lourenço sent a message to Zimbabwe's elected candidate, Emmerson Mnangagwa, for the "expressive victory" he obtained in the July 30 elections. In the letter, João Lourenço considers the electoral results as the reassertion of the trust deposited by the voters to Emmerson Mnangagwa, as well as the recognition of the population by his experience and political prestige. "The elections held here are also a demonstration of the vitality of Zimbabwe's democracy, which is renewed and consolidated with the victory achieved by it, which will certainly have positive repercussions throughout our sub-region," writes João Lourenço. The Angolan President ends the letter hoping that the actions that the two statesmen will undertake will contribute to the strengthening of peace, stability and the development of Angola and Zimbabwe, and of Southern Africa in general. Appeal for tolerance In his capacity as Chairman of the SADC Organ for Policy, Defense and Security Cooperation, João Lourenço also called on all political leaders and their supporters to observe the maximum tolerance and calm following the release of the results of the polls. In a statement issued on the occasion, João Lourenço expressed his solidarity with the people of Zimbabwe for their exemplary conduct during the elections of 30 July 2018.
