Maseru, ANGOLA, July 29 - A team of facilitators of the Multisectoral Reform Process, aimed at the political stabilization of the Kingdom of Lesotho, landed last Friday to Maseru to kick off its mission.,

It is a group headed by former South African Supreme Court Vice-President Dikgang Mosekene, comprised by three deputy ministers from his country.

The team was appointed June 15, 2018 by the acting President of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), Cyril Ramaphosa.

In Lesotho, the mission should focus on the technical aspects of multisectoral reforms and oversight of the implementation of the reform package recommended by SADC.

The Kingdom of Lesotho is experiencing a political crisis characterized by blows and attempted coups d'état, compounded by the assassination of two Armed Forces chiefs in 2015 and 2017.

Following these events, SADC, at the request of the Government of Lesotho, launched in November last year the Lesotho Kingdom Prevention Mission (SAPMIL).

The mission includes 269 elements, including military personnel, police officers, civilians and intelligence specialists.

Meanwhile, at the April Summit held in Luanda, Angola, SADC Heads of State and Government decided to extend SAPMIL's mandate for an additional six months, going through November.

The Summit also recommended the appointment of a "high-profile" figure to represent the facilitator of the reform process, given his poor availability to the mission following his election to the presidency of the African National Congress (ANC) and Africa in December 2017 and February of the current year, respectively.
