Number of female MPs may increase

Luanda, ANGOLA, July 27 - Angola’s Women’s Parliamentary group will continue to advocate with political parties to meet the increase of 30 per cent representation of women on their lists. ,

 

 

This was reiterated Friday by the president of the Group,  Luisão Damião, during a workshop on the "Role of Women in Local Authorities - Municipal Legislative Package".

 

The MP spoke of the inclusion of the figure (30%), as laid down in the law of the political parties.

 

In her speech, at the event held in the Angolan Parliament, the MP said to believes that true democracy entails participation of women.

 

According to her, women have accumulated experience in associativism.

She added that through their creativity women conduct innovative projects in the communities that contribute to the education and exaltation of citizenship.

 

She also took the opportunity to honor the African women on their anniversary on 31st July.

 

The MP underlined that the women’s determination and resilience made millions of Africans, particularly women, become proud of their identity.

 

She expressed her solidarity with women in situations of instability and conflict, especially in the Great Lakes region.

 

The event was guided by the Secretary of State for Territorial Administration, Laurinda Cardoso.
