Angola committed to Navy modernization

Luanda, ANGOLA, July 10 - Angola is seriously committed to training and upgrading its Navy (MGA) in order to ensure defence of national interest in territorial water. ,

 

The country’s commitment includes increasing its capacity to handle and use of modern technology, said Defence minister Salviano de Jesus Sequeira.

 

The Defence minister stated this Tuesday in message of congratulations sent to Angop, in Luanda, ahead of celebration of the 42nd anniversary of Angolan Navy, on July 10, 2018.

 

The minister spoke of the systematic increase of the technical component, handled by highly prepared staff.

 

According to him, theses elements allow to enlarge the capacity of forces to deal with the threats in territorial waters and, therefore, in the Great Lakes Region.

 

The official urged the Navy staff to continue to raise levels of discipline, vigilance and readiness in defence of the motherland.

 

In another message, the chief of General Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), Egídio de Sousa Santos, highlighted the trajectory of the Angola Navy in its 42 years of existence.

 

The chief of Staff attributed the development and modernization of Navy to the importance the Angolan Executive attaches to the defence of national sovereignty.

 

The chief of Staff alluded to the international terrorism which, according to him, poses a serious threat to the Region of the Gulf of Guinea, where Angola is also member.

 

He called for the need to strengthen vigilance and combative readiness to avoid potential illegal acts.

 

Sea is a source of important resources and represents an important means of communication, he added.

 

The Navy was founded in 1976.
