Angola: Navy marks 42 years on Tuesday

Luanda, ANGOLA, July 9 - Angolan Navy (MGA) celebrates its 42 years of existence on Tuesday, July 10. ,

The Navy was founded in 1976 during the visit by the first President and founder of the Angolan nation, António Agostinho Neto, to the naval base of Luanda.

Over the 42 years of existence, the branch of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), has recorded major changes in the sector.

But much is still to be done to ensure an effective patrolling of territorial waters, including the Exclusive Economic Zone (ZEE).

The Navy commander, Admiral Francisco José, said the investment made in the training of the staff was a very good vision for a branch with an essentially technical component and gradual complexity.

Addressing the opening ceremony of 42nd anniversary of the Navy, held in Lobito, coastal Benguela province, the admiral described the defence of the sea as crucial due to the resources of great importance for the populations.

Several provinces are holding lectures as well as cultural and sport activities to mark the event.
