Press Release - FAA Proposes $150,000 Civil Penalty Against Metropolitan Aviation

Washington, D.C.The U.S. Department of Transportations Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) proposes a $150,000 civil penalty against Metropolitan Aviation LLC, of Manassas. Va., for allegedly violating Federal Aviation Regulations pertaining to aircraft maintenance.

On February 21, 2017, the pilot in command of a Metropolitan charter flight discovered the Dassault Falcon 50 jets primary flight display was not working during a trip from Washington Dulles International Airport to Manassas Regional Airport in Virginia. The pilot recorded the malfunction in the aircraft maintenance log.

The FAA alleges the company returned the jet to service the same day after making a log entry indicating the primary flight display had been repaired. However, the company in its log entry failed to note when the work was performed, who performed the work, and the qualifications of the person who performed the work, the FAA alleges. Additionally, the FAA alleges the company failed to prepare an airworthiness release for the aircraft.

Metropolitan Aviation flew the aircraft on 34 charter flights between March 1 and April 20, 2017 without a written and signed repair approval and release, the agency alleges.

Metropolitan Aviation has 30 days after receiving the FAAs civil penalty letter to respond to the Agency.
