Namibia admits creation of SADC parliament

Luanda, ANGOLA, June 26 - Namibian parliament speaker Peter Katjavivi admitted on Tuesday in Luanda that the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) Parliamentary Forum could turn in the short term into a regional parliament.,

 

The leader of the Namibian parliament told Journalists at the end of a meeting in which Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, received representatives from the parliaments of SADC member states, who in the Angolan capital participate in the 43rd meeting of the Parliamentary Forum of the region.

 

Peter Katjavivi was encouraged by the efforts of Angolan President João Lourenço to transform the FP-SADC into a regional parliament.

 

"It is with this encouragement, support and political will that we believe this matter will soon be completed," he said.

 

He said that FP-SADC members are waiting for the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the regional body to be held in Namibia next August.

 

On Monday, during the opening ceremony of the 43rd FP-SADC meeting, President João Lourenço reaffirmed Angola's commitment to a truly integrated and developed SADC.
