MPLA Ruling Party holds Congress on 8 September

Luanda, ANGOLA, June 18 - the sixth extraordinary congress of the ruling MPLA party will be held on 8 September this year, in Luanda, for the election of the party's president, according to a statement from its political bureau (BP) meeting.,

The Political Bureau of the MPLA met Friday in Luanda under the guidance of the party's president, José Eduardo dos Santos, and approved the holding of the conclave on September 8.

 

The Central Committee, meeting in Luanda on 25 May approved the candidacy of João Lourenço for the party's president.

 

The organ also analyzed the proposal to honor the president of the MPLA, José Eduardo dos Santos, for the efforts made in the preservation of national independence, conquest of peace, reconciliation among Angolans and reconstruction of the country.

José Eduardo dos Santos has led the MPLA since 1979, following the death of António Agostinho Neto, then President of the party and the People's Republic of Angola.
