Capitals deemed priority in municipalities selection for local governments
Benguela, ANGOLA, June 6 - The implementation process of the local governments will include in the initial stage all the provincial capitals, announced last Tuesday in Benguela City, centre-west province with the same name, the national director of the Ministry of Territory Administration and State Reform, Vadi João.,
The source said that the choice of the first group of municipalities for the 2020 local elections depends on the ordinary legislator (Parliament), however, he stressed, so far the certainty is that all the provincial capitals will be included in the initial stage.
The national director was speaking at a debate on “Local elections in Angola, challenges to the Social Support Fund (FAS)”, in the ambit of the first broad consultative council of the FAS.
He reminded that for some time now the government has been reinforcing the role of municipalities, a process that is to culminate in full decentralisation, that is the transfer of legal competences to the elected municipal entities.
He then emphasised that this process will obviously include financial decentralisation.
The debate is tackling topics like “Partnerships among different institutions in the promotion of local development”, “Social action experiences, challenges and lessons”, among others.
