SADC parliamentary forum SG suspended

Luanda, ANGOLA, June 4 - The secretary general of the SADC Parliamentary Forum, Esau Chivia, has been suspended from office for reasons of indiscipline and non-compliance with the decisions of his principals. ,

This was told to the press on Saturday at Luanda’s “4 de Fevereiro” International Airport by the head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly, Josefina, Pitra Diakité, when returning from the parliamentary session.

 

She said that the suspension was aimed at safeguarding the reputation of the SADC parliamentary forum.

 

Following her suspension, an interim secretary-general was appointed to manage the forum during this period.

 

According to the MP, the meeting discussed the issue of the transformation of the SADC Parliamentary Forum into a parliament, which has been proposed for more than 10 years.

 

The SADC Parliamentary Forum was established on 8 September 1997 at the SADC Summit of Heads of States and Government held in Windhoek, Namibia.

 

The forum brings together the parliaments of the countries of Southern Africa, with a view to establishing parliamentary cooperation between representatives of the peoples of this region.

 

The aim is to strengthen SADC's capacity for implementation through the participation of parliamentarians in the organization's activities.
