Identity cards to be issued in schools

Luanda, ANGOLA, June 1 - National identity cards will be issued starting Friday at schools in the provinces of Luanda, Huambo, Bié, Malanje, Huíla and Moxico, due to an agreement between the Ministries of Justice and Human Rights and Education.,

The ID Cards usually are issued by the identification services and integrated centers.

The agreement was signed in Luanda by the Justice and Human Rights and Education ministers, respectively, Francisco Queiroz and Maria Cândida Teixeira, and aims to massive registration of school-age children.

Under the agreement, this morning began the campaign to issue the document in schools in Luanda, under the motto "my first identity card for citizenship."

Minister Francisco Queiroz said that there are a large number of children of school age without birth registration certificates and, consequently, without the ID card in Angola.

According to UNICEF data, in Angola, 75 per cent of children between the ages of zero to four years are unregistered and only 50 per cent, from five to fourteen, are registered.

Maria Cândida Teixeira, the Minister of Education, sensitized parents, guardians and school administrators to contribute to the process, sending citizens who do not have this document to the civil registry brigades at the schools.

The Ministers guaranteed the expansion of the program to other provinces in the country, in a phased way.
