National Police arrest foreign drug traffickers

Luanda, ANGOLA, May 31 - Angolan police have detained in the last three months eight South African citizens, carrying drug from Brazil during stop-over at the Luanda 4 de Fevereiro international airport. ,

The drugs were ingested and transported in baggage by those citizens whose destination was their country of origin, South Africa, the main focus of consumption of hese substances.

The traffickers, mainly the “mules”, have used several routes and Luanda has been one of them and with some frequency, said on Wednesday in Luanda, the director general of the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC), Eugénio Alexandre.

He made it known that the Angolan corporation has been permanently exchanging information with the South African and Brazilian counterparts in order to carry out such activities and criminalize the persons targeted.

The police authorities are not satisfied with the simple detention of the “mules”, the aim is to reach the barons of the business.

"We are in the presence of a transnational crime and, as such, it requires engagement from all countries and here cooperation is very important and has been fluid," said the SIC official, an organ assigned to the Ministry of Interior.

He also recalled that the 400 kilograms of drugs recently seized by the National Police in the Port of Luanda came from Brazil having Morocco as final destination.

He clarified that they work with the Brazilian, Moroccan police and others to obtain other relevant information regarding the case.
