SADC toward consolidated peace, security in region
Luanda, ANGOLA, May 18 - The director of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) for Politics Defence and Security Organ Jorge Cardoso pointed out the peace and security as the significant steps made by the institution to support regional integration process.

The SADC official confirmed this Friday, at an opening of 26th meeting of the SADC Defence Sub-Committee.
Among the achievements, the Jorge Cardoso mentioned the deployment of SADC Prevention Mission in the Kingdom of Lesotho (SAPMIL) to boost the SADC intervention in that country.
The mission is aimed to support the country in the search for a lasting solution to the challenges of maintaining its stability.
He said that the deployment of SAPMIL, started in November 2017, standing at 261 personnel, remains a milestone and an evidence of SADC's commitment to regional stability and peace.
He highlighted the effectiveness of the operational actions by Intervention Brigade (FIB) against the Negative Forces.
As one of the progresses achieved, the official also referred to the construction of a Regional Logistics Depot set to end in August of this year.
The one-day meeting addressed the reports on the standing committees and working groups, the state of implementation of the actions with the SADC stand-by force.
The meeting also discussed reports on SAPMIL progress, joint UN- SADC Troika and troops contributing countries in the Intervention Brigade Force (IBF), among others.
