Luanda, ANGOLA, May 18 - The National Assembly (AN) approved on Thursdaydefinitively the Law on Repatriation of Capital Bankarised Abroad, a government initiative and rejected the draft law on Extraordinary Regime of Assets Regulation (RERP) proposed by the opposition UNITA party. ,

The law was approved with 133 votes in favour, 65 votes against and an abstention. The draft law proposed by the opposition UNITA, which was rejected, had 49 votes in favour, 135 votes against (MPLA) and 17 abstentions by the opposition coalition CASA-CE and opposition FNLA and PRS.

 

According to UNITA MP, Pedro Cachiungo, the draft proposed by his party intended the national reconciliation, taking into account that the theme of repatriation of capitals only appeared in the parliamnt, since the moment that some fellow Angolans illictly transfered the the money from the state coffer.

 

UNITA intended that this money would return to the State coffer, otherwise, at least part of this amount, added the MP.

 

On his turn, the head of the ruling MPLA parliamentary group, Salomão Xirimbimbi, said having voted against the project of UNITA due to the fact that it is extremely confusing and starts from wrong assumptions, technically and legally wrongs.

 

According to Salomão Xirimbimbi, in an attempt to justify its draft, UNITA said it wanted to bring back the stolen money, when it does not even respect the principle of innocence.
