Zaire: Navy role in strategic security highlighted

Soyo, ANGOLA, May 5 - Angolan Navy (MGA) has great responsibility for ensuring safety of strategic economic zones and control of the country's maritime and fluvial border. ,

 

 

This was said Thursday by deputy chief of Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), general Mauricio Armando Zulu.

 

The FAA senior officer stressed the branch’s responsibility while speaking at the presentation of the new commander of the Northern Naval Region (RNN), Vice Admiral Noé Magalhães, in Soyo, Zaire province.

 

Noé Magalhães replaces Augusto Pedro after three years at the helm of the branch of FAA in the region.

 

General Mauricio Armando Zulu asked cooperation with the new commander, stressing the Navy’s role in protecting the interests of the country's economic zone.

 

The region comprises the oil exploration blocks onshore and offshore, as well as the Angola LNG factory, he noted.

 

He also spoke of the vulnerability along border shared with the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Congo Brazzaville.

 

According to him, the region is susceptible to illegal and destabilising actions by citizens from those countries.
