Kinshasa, ANGOLA, April 18 - The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has set up na Office to follow up the electoral process step by step in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) since Monday in Kinshasa. ,

SADC's executive secretary, Stergomena Lawrence Tax, attended the presentation of the premises of the Office, a ceremony in which Congolese authorities handed over the key to the Republic of Angola, as Acting Chair of the SADC Policy, Defense and Security Body.

 

The Office will be responsible for monitoring the implementation of the San Silvestro Agreement of 31 December 2016, which includes the holding of general elections in the DRC.

 

The very new office of the SADC in Kinshasa will be managed by the representatives of Angola, of Zambia and of Tanzania and will also count on the support of senio staff of DRC.

 

Members of the Government, leaders of political parties and civil society, members of the diplomatic corps and of international organizations attended the ceremony.

 

SADC is made up of Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mauritius, Seychelles, Malawi, Swaziland, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Mozambique and Zambia.
