NNSA launches redesigned website for migration to Energy.gov

WASHINGTON – The U.S.  Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) has launched a redesigned version of its website at Energy.gov/nnsa. Those who visit the previous nnsa.energy.gov web address will be automatically redirected to the new site.

“This move underlines NNSA’s vital role as part of the Department of Energy,” said Nora Khalil, NNSA's Associate Administrator for External Affairs. “Energy.gov has about 50 times the traffic of nnsa.energy.gov. By moving to the same system, more visitors will see our content and learn about NNSA’s important mission work.”

Previously, the DOE and NNSA websites operated on separate systems. The new NNSA website joins the larger energy.gov platform, which will make it easier to share content and resources with DOE, as well as highlight more interesting visual content.

The new NNSA website was designed to improve the user experience and make it easier for search engines to find NNSA information. Combining multiple pages and including commonly searched words in the body of the content were two parts of this effort. Site navigation was revamped to make the most-accessed content easier to reach.

The redesign also optimizes content for mobile devices. Phones and tablets account for about half of all web browsing in the United States. Both Energy.gov and the new Energy.gov/nnsa websites are compliant with accessibility requirements.

As part of the redesign, NNSA carefully reviewed all content to ensure it is timely and accurate. Content that was more than three years old or otherwise out of date has been removed. Those materials will be saved and sent to the National Archives in accordance with recordkeeping regulations.
