MYSTERY! ROYALTY! INTRIGUE! PANIC! Just business as usual at the White House - oops, the Castle - in a mythical land called Zergovia, where the dashing Crown Prince Ivan has come of age and now must choose his Queen. Hopeful princesses from around the world, rarely good at rejection, are forced to face their fears when the enchanting Vivien Savary appears. Is she Austrian? Is she an Opera Diva?? Is she, or isn't she, Royalty???

Do come see what marvelous mischief THE ENCHANTRESS has up her sleeve, and what merry, royal, and romantic escapades ensue in the Monarchy!

The Irish-American composer Victor Herbert was the "Crown Prince" of American popular music, especially when operetta commanded the early 20th century Broadway stage. Herbert's rhapsodic scores often became instant hits that were published widely and heard from coast to coast.

Originally staged in New York City in 1911, The New York Times published "MUSIC THAT CHARMS BY VICTOR HERBERT; In 'The Enchantress,' Which Raises Kitty Gordon to the Stars. A community already under obligations to Victor Herbert will again find itself his debtor for some very delightful music contributed in his new opera comique, presented at the New York Theatre last night, and apparently destined to a considerable popularity." Shortly after his death in 1924 the music critic in the New York World, stated Herbert’s popularity exceeded that of any other composer in America, adding “Victor Herbert raised light opera music to a degree of harmonic sophistication that it had never before reached.”

Among the many songs Victor Herbert launched into popular culture, one of the most famous is from The Enchantress and is titled "Art is Calling for Me," also commonly referred to as "I Want to be a Prima Donna."

In addition to his musical endeavors, Herbert was instrumental in the formation of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), and he fought radio broadcasters who tried to use popular and classical music without paying royalties. When dance stormed the theatrical world, Herbert and his collaborators were ready to deliver with the Waltz, the Mazurka and the Polonaise in THE ENCHANTRESS. Victor Herbert left all of Broadway in love with elegance, romance and dance. He'll do the same again for you this Spring.

THE ENCHANTRESS presented by VHRP LIVE! includes the acting talents and singing voices of (in order of appearance): Colm Fitzmaurice, Andrew Troop, Jonathan Fox Powers, Haley Vick, Jane Hoffman, Sonora Dolce, JoAnna Geffert, Susan Case, David Seatter, Jovani Demetrie, Brian Kilday, Drew Bolander, Tom Carle, Claire Leyden, Vira Slywotzky, and Joanie Brittingham.
