Malanje, ANGOLA, April 5 - The consolidation of democracy and unity among Angolans, the moralisation of Angolan the institutions and society, diversification of the economy and the reduction of territorial asymmetries are part of the priority tasks of the Executive. ,

The information was given by the Vice President of the Republic, Bornito de Sousa, when delivering a speech last Wednesday in the main celebration act of the Peace and National Reconciliation Day (April 04), in representation of the Head of State, who is away on a private visit to the United States of America (U.S.A).

 

He said in the present environment of strong economic restrictions, the new Executive has the hard, but noble, mission of leading the growing impetus for development and modernisation of Angola.

 

He went on to stress that the effective peace being enjoyed by Angolans is the basis for the country’s development, as well as for the well-being and harmony of Angolans.    

 

In his opinion, peace has enabled the country to constitutional normality, regular holding of elections and the approval of a new Constitution in the year 2010.

 

With this environment, the country boosted the process of rebuilding infrastructures like schools, hospitals, roads, airports, houses and hydroelectric dams, as well as focused on the demining process that enabled peasant families to regain access to land and resume family agriculture production.

 

He went on to say that peace has united Angolans, promoted the creation of the Angolan Armed Forces, National Police, intelligence organs, having also enabled a better projection of Angola’s image abroad.

 

While in Malanje Province, Bornito de Sousa learnt of the difficulties being recorded in the social domain, as well as visited some socioeconomic undertakings.

 

On April 04, 2002, it was signed the Memorandum of Understanding, also known as the Additional Document to the Lusaka Peace Protocol, between the Angolan Government and the opposition UNITA party.

 

The date, which is a public holiday, is deemed an occasion to promote the spirit of tolerance, patriotic values and elevate the definitive peace being enjoyed by Angolans since 2002.
