Viktor Zubkov meets with Italian NGV market representatives and Football for Friendship ambassadors

Release

A working meeting of Viktor Zubkov, Chairman of the Gazprom Board of Directors, Pierre Lahutte, Brand President of Iveco, and Mariarosa Baroni, President of NGV Italy, took place in Turin (Italy) today.

The meeting was also attended by Sergey Razov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Italian Republic, and Mikhail Likhachev, Director General of Gazprom Gazomotornoye Toplivo.

The parties discussed the state and prospects of the Italian NGV market, as well as the efficiency of public support measures for converting motor vehicles to natural gas. Extensive attention was paid to the potential of cooperative efforts in expanding the use of natural gas as a vehicle fuel.

“The use of natural gas is the most efficient and affordable way of reducing harmful emissions in the transport sector. At the Gazprom Group, we pay great attention to that line of work. We are convinced that methane is the key to eco-friendly transportation on a mass scale.

Our Italian colleagues share our enthusiasm. Italy is not just Gazprom’s third-largest export market. This country is currently the largest consumer of natural gas as a vehicle fuel in Europe. That can largely be attributed to comprehensive public support measures, including direct subsidies for converting motor vehicles to natural gas, as well as tax and other benefits, right down to free parking. I think that this experience can be put to use in our country,” said Viktor Zubkov.

Also today, Viktor Zubkov and Sergey Razov met with young ambassadors of Gazprom’s international children’s social project, Football for Friendship (F4F): 14-year-old Albert Zinnatov and 12-year-old Timofey Evstigneev (Russia), 12-year-old Paul Puig Montana (Spain), 13-year-old Nicola Postiglione (Italy), and 15-year-old Emmeka Henschen (Netherlands).

In the course of the meeting, a certificate was signed on the awarding of the Nine Values Cup. The unique trophy will go to Real Madrid, recognized by the project participants as the most socially responsible football club in 2017.

Tomorrow, F4F ambassadors will hand the Nine Values Cup to a representative of the Real Madrid Foundation at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in Madrid.

“At the moment, the Nine Values Cup is the only sports trophy in the world that is awarded by children. We created F4F as a platform that helps children around the globe make their voices heard, and we are happy to see more than 200 countries from every continent contributing to the project this year.

It is heartening to see that supporting F4F has become a good tradition in Italy. Italian youth have participated in the project since 2014, and this season will be no exception,” said Viktor Zubkov.

Background

In 2017, Gazprom delivered 23.8 billion cubic meters of gas to Italy.

Italy’s NGV refueling network includes some 1,200 units, with upward of 1 million NGVs across the country.

The Football for Friendship (F4F) international children's social project has been implemented by Gazprom since 2013. The project is aimed at developing youth football and fostering tolerance and respect toward different cultures and ethnicities among children from across the world.

In 5 years, the project's geographical scope grew 8 times from 8 to 64 countries. In 2018, Gazprom will for the first time ever bring together representatives of all 211 members of FIFA as part of F4F.

The Nine Values Cup is awarded annually to a professional football club for the implementation of social initiatives. The nominees include world-famous clubs that contribute to charity and social projects for the benefit of society. The Nine Values Cup is given to football clubs that best reflect the values of F4F: friendship, equality, fairness, health, peace, devotion, victory, traditions, and honor. The winner is chosen by fans across the globe, although the final decision is made by F4F participants through a vote.
