PGR pledges to investigate irregularities on public debt
Luanda, ANGOLA, March 28 - The Attorney General of the Republic, Hélder Pitta Gróz, pledged Wednesday to launch investigations into irregularities over the public debt.,
The prosecutor was responding to reports that 25 percent of the state's debt to companies is fraudulent, amounting to over 1 billion Kwanzas.
The Attorney General said that only Tuesday he learned from a secure source of public debt offenses.
Hélder Pitta Gróz acknowledges that in the process linked to the attempted USD 50 billion fraud by Thailand citizens is involved Angolan entities, the mistake was made by the fact that the Chief of Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), General Sachipengo Nunda, to have been informed by the press that he had been constituted defendant.
It is not appropriate for the general to learn of the fact through the press, without being done in the proper way, while blaming the magistrate for the public presentation of the omission of the names of the other three generals.
He finds unfounded the claim of Belarmino Van-dunem for the disclosure of his name in the media, involved in the same case, since he had been notified and questioned in the case. The attorney general explains that being a defendant means having criminal responsibility, although he has not yet been accused.
The defendant's condition, he adds, may be beneficial to those indicted for offering broader defense mechanisms, as well as assisting with the process, and keeping citizens more available for any due diligence.
He highlighted the fact that José Filomeno dos Santos, former CEO of the Sovereign Fund of Angola, accused of being involved in an illegal transfer of USD 500 million abroad thus he delivered his passports to the Angolan authorities.
He also said that José Filomeno dos Santos had already been notified through his lawyer and that his collaboration lends good support to justice.
The Attorney General of the Republic advocates actions that allow the population to be trained and informed about their rights.
