MPLA improves leader's proposal regarding extraordinary congress

Last, Friday, at a party Central Committee meeting, José Eduardo dos Santos announced that the presidential succession issue within the MPLA will be sorted out at an extraordinary congress, which, in his opinion, should take place in December this year or in April 2019.
Speaking last Saturday to the press, in Luanda, the MPLA secretary for information, Norberto Garcia, stated that the proposal made by the party’s leader was not rejected, but it will need to be rearranged and improved.
He said the leadership transition process in the party is progressing in a positive manner.
“It is obvious that there are situations that can bring about more or less criticism, which is normal because we are in a democracy. That is what we want, a party that is more and more democratic and open”, he explained.
Norberto Garcia spoke on the fringes of the party’s Methodological Meeting, which was chaired by the MPLA vice president, João Lourenço.
The ruling party’s secretary for information stressed that the work of the MPLA must be more and more scrutinised by its militants, because this brings unity and cohesion in the party.
Meanwhile, the MPLA has already scheduled for this April the holding of its Politburo meeting to reflect on the holding of the extraordinary congress, while the next gathering of the party’s Central Committee, which is also to analyse this issue, is set for this May.
