Government to build Muxima Sanctuary

Luanda, ANGOLA, March 7 - The Angolan Government keeps the commitment to build the Santuary o f Our Lady of Muxima, said on Wednesday in Luanda, the President of the Republic, João Lourenço.,

It is a sanctuary linked to the Catholic Church where it pontificates an image of the Virgin Mary.

It has become a place of spiritual devotion that has passed from generation to generation, being the largest space of popular devotion in Angola, with pilgrims arriving by land and river.

Located on the banks of the Kwanza River, in municipality of Quissama, the site was occupied by the Portuguese in 1589, who ten years later built a fortress there and the Nossa Senhora da Conceição church, also known as "Mama Muxima".

During the speech, the Head of State said that the question of the extension of the national radio station Ecclésia, a Catholic broadcaster in Angola, had been surpassed.

The ceremony was also attended by the new ambassadors of Angola in Austria and permanent representative to the UN and other international organizations in Vienna, Teodolinda Rosa Rodrigues Coelho, in Turkey, José Gonçalves Martins Patrício and in the Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Rui Jorge Carneiro Mangueria.
