Keeping IDentities Safe applauds the Ohio BMV for pursuing full REAL ID compliance, and employing central issuance.

WASHINGTON, DC, USA, March 1, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Washington, D.C. – Keeping IDentities Safe, a Washington D.C. based non-profit, applauds the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) for its pursuing full REAL ID compliance and employing high security central issuance. The Ohio BMV will issue REAL ID compliant driver’s licenses and identification cards beginning July 2, 2018.

Keeping Identities Safe President Brian Zimmer said, “I commend the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles’ adoption of central issuance processes, and further compliance with REAL ID act requirements. With the deadline for airline passengers to present REAL ID compliant IDs just a few years away, it’s important that Ohio residents can choose to renew their current licenses with REAL ID compliant ones as soon as possible.”

Keeping Identities Safe notes that Ohio is joining 41 other states which now provide driver’s licenses and identification cards through the mail. Centralizing the production of driver’s licenses and identification cards will reduce driver’s license fraud and identify theft by:
(1) Preventing thievery and the loss of Registrar Agency materials
(2) Creating a safe and secure printing environment to prevent loss of card stock and to utilize manufacturing techniques beyond the capability of localized issue printers.
(3) Ensuring that only driver’s license applicants whose identities have been confirmed receive a credential

The Ohio BMV website explains that customers who seek a REAL ID compliant license or ID will be required to provide documentation proving their name and date of birth (such as a birth certificate or passport), Social Security number (such as a Social Security card) and two additional documents proving residential address (such as utility bills). State residents are advised to look at instructions at the BMV website before making the trip to a local office.
October, 2020 will be a very hectic month for business travelers, airlines and the Transportation Security Administration, as millions around the country seek a license upgrade. But this can be avoided, as there is no penalty for renewing licenses before then, and no incentive to wait for the deadline, so citizens would be wise to avoid the headaches of airport complications, and become REAL ID compliant drivers today.
