Ethiopia: 30th African Union Summit ends in Addis Ababa
Addis Ababa, ANGOLA, January 31 - The 30th Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) ended Monday, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with the approval of fundamental documents, among them the Institutional Reform Programme. ,
The institutional reform, which was one of the main instruments analyzed by the African leaders, was approved in the general despite some reservations from the countries of Southern Africa Development Community (SADC).
However, a recommendation has been given for its continued consultation so as to implement punctual amendments in the document.
The meeting also approved the reports on the free trade zone, the instrument on the Single African Aviation Market as well as the Peace and Security report, among other fundamental instruments.
Held under the theme “Winning the fight against corruption: a sustainable path to Africa's transformation”, the Heads of State and Government Summit, analysed reports from the organisation’s Peace and Security Council, its activities, as well as a document on the Top Level Committee for Libya.
The summit also reviewed the reports on Climate Change and Education, Science and Technology in the continent.
More than 40 African Heads of State and Government, incluiding the Angolan President, João Lourenço attended the meeting.
