Ethiopia: AU discusses anti-corruption strategy

Addis Ababa, ANGOLA, January 22 - The anti-corruption matter will be on the rise at the 30th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Summit of Heads of State and Government as from 28 to 29 January in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.,

The Summit will have as its motto “Winning the Fight against Corruption: A Sustainable Path to Africa's Transformation”, and it will count on the participation of a high-level delegation from Angola, led by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço.

The agenda includes the presentation of a statement by the outgoing President of the AU, President of the Republic of Guinea, Alpha Condé, and interventions by the President of the African Commission (CUA), Moussa Faki Mahamat, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, and the President of the Palestinian State and the PLO Executive Committee, Mahmoud Abbas.

On the first day, in addition to launching this year's theme, Rwanda President Paul Kagamé will present his report on the Institutional Reform of the AU. Paul Kagame is at the summit ahead of the African Union.

The reports of the Peace and Security Council, its activities and the State of play in Africa, as well as the High Level Committee for Libya, by the Congolese President, Denis Sassou Nguesso, will also be considered.

Similarly, the document on the issues of the Free Trade Area of the Americas (ZCLC), will be addressed by the President of the Republic of Niger, Mahmadou Issoufou, and Gabonese Head of State, Ali Bongo Ondimba, on Amendments climate change.

The report on the Promotion of Partnerships between the African Union and the United Nations for Strengthening Peacekeeping Operations Capacity will be presented by President Jacob Zuma of South Africa.

Meanwhile, the Summit of Heads of State and Government will be preceded by the 35th Ordinary Session of the Permanent Representatives Committee (CRP) set for 22-23 May, and the 32nd Ordinary Session of the AU Executive Council as from 25-26 January.
