President considers country's situation challenging

Luanda, ANGOLA, January 19 - Angola is in a challenging economic and financial situation and needs to quickly adopt policy measures that promote the internal and external balance of the country's economy, said the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, on Thursday.,

According to the Head of State, the referred measures should take into account the development of the private sector and the competitiveness of the national companies.

João Lourenço, who was speaking at the National Assembly, during the discussion and approval session of the State Budget proposal (OGE) for 2018, pointed out the implementation of the Macroeconomic Stabilization Programme (PEM) as one of the steps in this direction.

The programme is based on improving the efficiency of the execution of public expenditure, as well as on a greater dynamism in the collection of tax revenues.

The Executive understands that a greater robustness of the fiscal sector will contribute decisively to the reduction of inflation and the need for an increase in Treasury funding.

"This will make possible to increase people's purchasing power, raise interest rates and lending to the private sector," said the President in his second visit to the Parliament.

João Lourenço was in Parliament for the first time as President of the Republic in October 2017 to deliver the State of the Nation address.
