Government prepares program to replace imports

Luanda, ANGOLA, January 17 - A Program to Support Production, Diversification of Exports and Import Substitution (PRODESI) was analyzed on Wednesday in Luanda during the 1st ordinary session of the Economic Commission of the Council of Ministers.,

The focus of the program is to ease the diversification of domestic production, by accelerating the promotion of exporting ranks in non-oil sectors and with import substitution potential.

The press release of the meeting, to which Angop had got access to, states that among the ranks with potential import substitution are food, agro-industry, mineral resources, oil / natural gas, textiles, clothing, footwear as well as tourism and leisure.

In this field, under the guidance of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, the Economic Commission recommended a consultation process for the private business sector in order to obtain additional contributions to the program to ensure its success.

As part of the public debt, the meeting reviewed a memorandum on the re-evaluation of the titled internal public debt regularization strategy, aimed at reducing the management effort of the Single Treasury Account (CUT) for debt servicing in the coming years, and ensure their sustainability.

The session on Wednesday also considered a draft competition law. It is a legal document aimed at introducing into the Angolan legal framework a system of defense of competition and whose objective is to promote the competitiveness of economic agents.

In addition to the competitiveness of the various economic agents, the document provides for the establishment of efficiency mechanisms in the allocation of production factors and in the distribution of goods and services, without losing sight of the stage of development of the Angolan reality.

The Economic Commission of the Council of Ministers is charged with dealing with the macroeconomic agenda of the Government and ensuring the conduct of macroeconomic management in harmony with the objectives and economic priorities of the Governance Program of the President of the Republic.
