UNITA wants local elections from 2020

Luanda, ANGOLA, January 11 - UNITA, the largest opposition party in Angola, expects that the local elections will be implemented in the country starting from 2020, which will allow it to comply with a constitutional imperative.,

"We think that by 2018 we can complete the legislative package. In 2019 one goes in to the practical questions. And by 2020, the local elections can be effective, "said UNITA President Isaias Samakuva on Thursday.

The UNITA leader gave these statements to the press at the end of a courtesy meeting with the provincial governor of Luanda, Adriano Mendes de Carvalho.

Isaias Samakuva understands that local elections can help solve many of the local social problems, including the lack of jobs.

The Angolan Government defends the institutionalization of local authorities until 2021, according to the conclusions of the IV forum of municipalities and cities of Angola held in November 2016 in Luanda.

The Government's standing is based on the need to create technical support tools, including technical, human and financial resources, and including the traditional authorities in local governance.
