Angola and Holy See assess cooperation

Luanda, ANGOLA, January 9 - The conditions for the signing of the Framework Agreement for Cooperation between Angola and the Catholic Church were evaluated on Wednesday in Luanda, during a meeting between Angolan Foreign Minister Manuel Augusto and the Apostolic Nuncio, Peter Rajic.,

Speaking to the press at the end of the meeting, the apostolic nuncio in Angola and São Tomé reported that there is a good textual basis for the agreement, lacking the accuracy of details for its subsequent signature.

He said that the agreement should prioritize the recognition of the Catholic Church as a partner of the State and give guarantees that allow working freely in Angola in the spiritual, education, health and other fields, but without being involved in matters of State.

However, he did not advance dates, believing that the document could be signed "in the near future".

For the Apostolic Nuncio, with the Framework Agreement, formerly designated Concordat, Angola would enter into the list of countries of the world with privileged relations with the Holy See, in the joint effort for the people and in the search for the common good.
