Former combatants get social assistance processes in Zaire

Mbanza Kongo, ANGOLA, January 4 - At least 52 former combatants and veterans of the homeland in northern Zaire province received their respective processes on Thursday in Mbanza Kongo, which enable them to benefit from incentives for their socio-economic reintegration.,

The document was handed over by minister João Ernesto dos Santos, on the fringes of the central act of the commemorations of the 57th anniversary of January 4, the day of the Martyrs of the colonial repression in the Lower Cassanje, which he chaired in Mbanza Kongo.

The new beneficiaries join the 3.356 former combatants and veterans of the country and war orphans that the ministry assists in this region, through the local directorate of the sector. The 57th anniversary of the Martyrs of Baixa de Cassanje takes place under the motto "January 4, 1961, source of political inspiration for national independence".

On January 4, 1961, peasants from the cotton fields of Baixa de Cassanje were murdered for opposing the low prices of cotton purchases by farmers and the Cotonang Company.
