Over 300 people arrested at Christmas

Luanda, ANGOLA, December 29 - At least 308 citizens were detained from 24 to 25 December by the National Police, following alleged involvement in 297 various crimes recorded in the country, reported Friday in Luanda, the head of the Central National Police Command, Caetano Quiar.,

Caetano Quiar said that at an assessment meeting for the Christmas security program set by the Secretary of State for the Interior for Technical security, Hermenegildo José Felix, who recommended to citizens to adopt civic and orderly conduct during the year, in order to guarantee a safe and peaceful transition.

The Secretary of State ruled out the possibility of citizens to resort to firearms or other prohibited devices at the festivities, otherwise will be referred criminally, and urged the fireworks promoters to strictly follow the instructions of the authorities regarding the care of their launch sites.

Regarding the  review, Caetano Quiar said that of the 297 crimes, 251 were clarified, corresponding to an operability of 85 percent of the cases of Christmas that registered, compared to the year 2016, an increase of 54 crimes and 74 arrests.

The provinces of Luanda, with 49 cases, Benguela (25) and Bié (23) recorded the highest number of crimes.
