National Assembly speaker augurs consensus during legislature
Luanda, ANGOLA, December 20 - The Angolan National Assembly (AN) speaker, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, Wednesday in Luanda encouraged the MPs to work on the search for consensus for the common good during the IV Legislature.,
"We are representatives of the people, we have different functions but we have the same obligations and, therefore, we cannot defraud the Angolan people," said the Angolan parliamentary leader, who during the three months of work achieved positive results.
Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, who was speaking at the end of year greetings ceremony, said that there was every need for MPs to always learn from each other. He noted that parliamentarians should not be afraid of the difficult times that they might eventually face, because the difficulties are to be faced and overcome.
"Let us not be ashamed of possible bad results that we can obtain, because we must have the humility to learn from our failures as well," said the AN speaker , who asked the MPs to help them to carry out their duties successfully.
The Parliament of the Republic of Angola is an organ of sovereignty. It has one Chamber, represents the people and is invested with the legislative power.
It is composed of 220 MPs, 130 of which are elected by proportional representation and 90 by provincial districts. MPs are elected every five years.
As result of the last general elections of 2017, the IV Legislature of the National Assembly counts on 150 MPs from MPLA, 51 from UNITA, 16 of the CASA-CE coalition, two from PRS and one from FNLA.
