Angola prepares to swap ambassadors

Luanda, ANGOLA, December 14 - Foreign Affairs Ministry (MIREX) will swap ambassadors in a move expected to couple with the closure of some Embassies in Angola, as part of restructuring process. ,

As for the closure of some diplomatic representations, set for next year, MIREX announced the implementation of regional representation model.

It is a model in which the country will be represented at the level of the different regions by an Embassy, and not by several as usual.

The minister of Foreign Affairs, Manuel Augusto, said that the move is meant to deal with financial hardship in the country, which makes it impossible to keep a high number of Embassies.

"We can not keep Embassies and Consulates with the staff to experience difficulties," he told Angola's National Radio station on Thursday.

As for the inquiry into the Consular and human resources sectors, Manuel Augusto believes that   conclusions will emerge in the next few days, after which the sector will take the appropriate measures.

It is up to Ministry of Foreign Affairs to propose the strategic principles of foreign policy and the general bases for the establishment and development of economic, technical-scientific and cultural cooperation relations.

MIREX also coordinates the action of state agencies in the international sphere, appreciates its political opportunity and ensures national representation with other states and international organisations.

Mirex's role is to defend Angola's interests and protect the rights of its citizens abroad.
