The information is contained in a statement issued by the MPLA Political Bureau, which Angop had got access on Saturday, on the occasion of the 61st anniversary of the founding of the party, marked on Sunday (10 December).

Here is the full Statement:

On December 10, 2017, on the 61st ANNIVERSARY OF THE MPLA FOUNDATION, the Political Bureau of the Party recalls the glorious trajectory of this broad Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola, which galvanized the Angolan People and won the struggle against the Portuguese colonial occupation and which is today the fundamental instrument for the satisfaction of its aspirations for independence, peace, democracy and social progress.

The MPLA celebrates its anniversary at a time when there are still echoes of the party's victory in the General Elections of 23 August this year, with a qualified majority of 61.08 percent of the valid votes, electing 150 deputies, of the 220 that includes the National Assembly.

The MPLA expresses its deep appreciation to the Angolan voters, for the massive and orderly influx of voters and for having voted, mostly, in itself, conferring on it the legitimacy to govern Angola, in the next five years and declares that everything will do so that the Country continue to grow and develop in an effort that is felt by the citizens, with the improvement of their living conditions.

The MPLA, through its Executive, will use the express way that the Angolans have opened for it, to improve what is right and correct what is wrong, to fight corruption, to strengthen the democratic rule of law, to diversify the economy, in short, to improve the quality of life of citizens.

In the words of Comrade JOSÉ EDUARDO DOS SANTOS, President of the MPLA, "this victory at the polls, which made possible a peaceful and orderly political transition at the level of the State apparatus, leads us to underline the importance of strengthening the organization, discipline and unity of our Party".

The MPLA considers that it is these values that ensure the functioning and dynamics of the political life of the Party and that allow to work together in the materialization of the objectives contained in the Government Program for the present five years, for the creation, in Angola, of a society with a greater solidarity, more just and more cohesive.

To all the citizens who have cast their vote of confidence to the MPLA and to Comrade JOÃO LOURENÇO, to hold the office of President of the Republic of Angola, the Political Bureau extends its patriotic and fraternal embrace, in the certainty that the Party will do everything so that, with the strength of past and present, the Angolans will build a better future.

The Political Bureau urges militants, sympathizers and friends of the ruling MPLA to close ranks around the Party's leadership and to participate with joy in the activities commemorating the 61st anniversary, making them a moment of celebration and meditation on the contribution that each must provide for the fulfillment of the Government Program approved by the Angolan People.

MPLA - IMPROVE WHAT IS RIGHT AND CORRECT WHAT IS WRONG

PEACE, WORK AND FREEDOM
